-First Big Storm of the Season-
The first big storm of the season is heading for southern California this weekend. The National Weather Service is estimating 6-12″ above 7000 ft. The snow level is expected to drop to 4500 ft. This means the mountains in San Diego county will get snow as well.

Date Hiked: 10-21-2010
Trip Report:
I took the day off work to see to if there was any snow up in the high country. It was an interesting day on the mountain with mostly clouds and rain. The views did open up over the Bowl on the way down which was nice. There were only small patches of snow above 9500 feet. I was expecting more but I guess the recent storm was not cold enough. I have posted a few pictures for anyone interested. -

Trip Report:
San Jacinto Peak is the highest point in the San Jacinto mountain range. It is also a very popular peak due to its proximity to large cities and the tram which one can take most of the way up the mountain. This was my second time hiking this peak and I also added Jean Peak. I was able to make this trip with a good friend Dave. There was still lots of snow above Saddle Junction to the peak. There is a full conditions report with pictures. If you want more info use the contact section and I can help you out. -

HPS: #14
Elevation: 10,064 ft.
Date Hiked: 3-21-2010
Trip Report:
Mt. Baldy is the highest point in Los Angeles also an HPS peak. Mt. Baldy is also considered one of the 3 big peaks in southern California. During the winter months there is excellent mountaineering in the Baldy Bowl, a large bowl like feature with numerous climbing routes. I had wanted to climb this route while there was still snow, this weekend turned out to be the perfect time. -

SDC: #20Elevation: 5,883 ft.
Date Hiked: 3-6-10
Trip Report:
Middle Peak was one of the southern San Diego HPS peaks which I had yet to hike. This peak is just north of Cuyamaca Peak and is known for the poor views and large trees. Middle Peak has the largest trees in San Diego county. This area was devastated by the 2003 fires and is still recovering. -

Elevation: 5,326 ft. & 4,574 ft.
Date Hiked: 1-23-10
Trip Report:
I had been looking to go for a hike for the past few weeks. This past week southern California had an epic series of storms which left snow above 4,000 ft in San Diego. Although there was up to two feet of snow I was still going to try and bag an HPS and a few SDC peaks. I choose to hike San Ysidro mountain becasue you can also bag 3 SDC peaks (The Thimble, White BM and Bonny BM). These peaks aree located west of Borrego Springs along State Route 22. The directions from the HPS site were dead on.
