SDC: #1
Elevation: 1,544 ft.
Date Hiked: 11/22/08.
Trip Report:
I have hiked Black Mountain many times before so I knew what to expect. It also happens to be very close to where I live. I started around 10 AM and reached the top a half hour later. The views from the top were not too bad.

I could see many peaks in the area which are on the Sierra Club’s list. One interesting thing which happened on this hike was with my GPS. Around 1300 ft it all of the sudden did not receive a signal. It had a lock with around 8 satellites and then nothing. I was puzzled by this and proceed to the top. On the summit I took some photos, walked around then started down. At the same spot the GPS, all of the sudden had great reception. I wanted to know what was causing this, I guessed it had something to do with the microwave towers on the summit (I researched this at home and found people with similar problems around microwave towers). If anyone knows why this happens I would love to know. It took around and hour and a half for the entire hike (including a half hour on top).
